The ``Link/Anchor URL'' Media Panel

Figure 11: The ``Link/Anchor URL'' Media Panel, showing the current selection, the location of EIT's WWW ``home page''.

When an anchor or ``in line'' image is browsed in WWWeasel's HTML editor, if the data does not appear to reside on the local filesystem, the URL is set as the media selection and the ``Link/Anchor URL'' Media Panel will be used to display the URL. The panel also performs operations on the selected URL, and allows the URL to be typed in by the user, pasted from the X selection, or retrieved from the ``Link/Anchor Browser''. If the URL appears to reference an image file (e.g. ``.gif'', or ``.xbm'' extension) then the ``in line'' icon becomes active - selecting it means that subsequent insertions will add <IMG> markups to one's document, double clicking it will directly insert the selected markup at the cursor location in the editor. The default markup type created on ``insert'' from this media selection is an ``anchor'' (<A>).

Pushbuttons on the ``Link/Anchor URL'' Media Panel have two important functions: (1) ``Retrieve Media From URL''[*] - fetch the media from the selected URL, and make that (local) media the current media selection; (2) ``Show URL in Mosaic'' - displays/previews the selected URL in the Mosaic browser. Figure 11 shows this media panel displaying the URL for EIT's ``home page'' on the internet.

If the ``Link/Anchor Browser'' is being used (see below), and the ``Link/Anchor URL'' Media Panel is selected, then the selected URL in the ``Link/Anchor Browser'' becomes the insertion/browse selection for the given editor window. Additionally if the ``Media $\Rightarrow$ Anchor from Link/Anchor Browser'' command is issued, the ``Link/Anchor URL'' Media Panel will be selected and the current media selection set no matter what media panel is currently being displayed.
